CHBC Technology Tour of Rio Hondo Community College - Alternative Fuels Education Center

We invite CHBC members and interested parties to participate in CHBC's Technology Tour of Rio Hondo Community College.

The College is one of the best kept secrets in the training industry. The Alternative Fuels program is only Associates of Science Degree program in California currently active. The program offers training to Students, Fleet programs, Independent shop owners and specialty contract courses. Areas of Alternative Fuels are:

  • Compressed Natural Gas fuel systems
  • Liquid Natural Gas systems
  • Hydrogen Gas fuel systems
  • Fuel cell energy
  • Hybrid technology
  • Plug-in Hybrid technology
  • Battery Electric vehicle technology
  • Fuel station technology
  • High-Voltage storage and generation technology
  • Solar technology
  • Wind energy technology

Tour will include all these technologies and how they are presented to the students and industry.

The program at Rio Hondo College has set many industry standards, first program in the U.S. to be fully accredited by NATEF in Alternative Fuels, and this year three programs NATEF accredited. Since its inception over 15 years ago, the Advanced Transportation Technology and Energy Center has proven to be one of the exemplary programs in California with honors from the California Community Colleges Association for Occupational Education (CCCAOE) in 2004 for “Outstanding Program”. Two instructors earning the top award for college instructors in an automotive program and the only Automotive “Green Instructor” from the State of California Community College Green Community.

The Career Technical Education department features 65,000 feet of classrooms and lab space. With its spacious seven classrooms and nine working laboratory’s, student success is number one priority. The College's list of training partners is impressive with partners as:
